The department was established in August 1998. The department currently offers M.Sc., M.Phil, and Ph.D. in Electronics. At present, there are 02 professors, 03 readers and 02 lecturers.
Academic flexibility has been introduced by the university in the PG departments from June 2007. Under the academic flexibility programme, M.Sc. syllabus is thoroughly revised with structural modifications and inclusion of new additional theory papers and practical work component. It has been now introduced with credit system along with continuous internal evaluation [C.I.E.] system of examination. All the faculty members were actively involved in the syllabi revision programmes, which were introduced in 2003-04 and 2008-09
Though all teachers are engaged in the academic counseling, all the faculty members in the department guide the students at the time of enrolment, for competitive examinations and placements. Students are also encouraged to take participation in sports and extra curricular activities.
Teachers in the department are encouraged to attend refresher and orientation courses, workshops, seminars and conferences. Further the department organizes workshops, seminars every year.
During the last 5 years, faculty members have published: 60 research papers in international journals, 30 research papers in national journals, 13 research papers in international conferences and 54 research papers in national conferences. The faculty of the department has also published books on relevant topics at national and international level.
The department faculty has received awards such as Best Teacher Award, Best Journal Paper Award, certificate of recognition, Certificate of Excellence to name a few.
Thirteen students succeed in NET/SET examination. Students also received state level awards in sports, nomination for president of India medal, Late Shantaram N. Vaingankar award and University merit scholarships.
