  Introduction :

With the aim of social inclusion and making an earnest effort to enhance the enrollment in higher education from about 9% to around 15% as envasaged in the  XI Plan. The Distance Education Council, New Delhi, sanctioned Development Grant of Rs 10 Lakhs for 2005-06, Rs 20 Lakhs for 2006-07 and Rs 40 Lakhs for2007-08. Thereby the Centre for Distance Education was established by the Shivaji University keeping in mind the following

  Objectives:

  • To provide educational opportunities.

  • To more number of students from the eligible age group than is possible today

  • To different sections of  the society, who are for some reason unable to pursue education, and bring them into the main stream

  • To the female class of the society who have remained deprived because of domestic responsibilities and social restrictions.

  • To the working class who choose to study at their own place and pace.

  • To all  sections of the society irrespective of caste, religion, gender, area of origin ,social and financial status etc

  • at affordable costs.

  • To offer courses of study along  with  Self  Instructional Material, contact sessions, counselling facilities, library & internet facilities through designated Study Centres.

  Study Centres :

10 Study Centre  have been identified for  providing facilities for the courses B.A; B.Com and M.Sc (Mathematics). I year  in 2007-08 and extending to II & III years in the coming years.We have  immediate plans of extending  our services for other  courses like B.Ed, Executive M.B.A & Masters in Valuation (Real Estate) in June 2008-09.

  Self Instructional Material (SIM) :

Production of SIM for B.A;B.Com. I and M.Sc I year  comprising  of 63 books (in both Marathi and English) has been completed.  A number of workshop and meetings were conducted by the centre, subject-wise.,along with the respective BOS Chairpersons for the unit writers resulting  in the  production of  the SIM which has been distributed to the students in December/January 2008. The Centre has chalked out workshops and meetings for production of SIM  for the IInd year B.A; B.Com and M.Sc courses so that the SIM will be ready  & provided to the students at the time of registration in June/July 2008. 

            Registration & Examinations for the above External/Distance Mode Courses will be conducted by the University along with the Regular students.

  Building : - Centre for Distance Education

             The Shivaji University has earmarked Rs. One Crore for Construction of a separate building for the Centre.  The plan has been finalized & approval from the PWD, Government of Maharashtra is awaited

            The Centre will be fully equipped with facilities for conducting admissions, Contact Session, Meeting, Seminars/Conferences etc in the near future.
